Does the Ohio Defensive Driving Course provide a point credit?
Yes, eligible Ohio drivers may complete the program to receive a two-point credit on their driving record. However, you will not receive the credit if you take the course to satisfy a court order.
Drivers with two to 11 points on their license will receive a two-point credit that allows them to receive 14 points before having their license suspended. This credit will remain valid for three years, and you're permitted to take the course for a point credit up to five times in your lifetime.
Will the Ohio Defensive Driving course satisfy my court order?
Yes, our course is approved by the Ohio Department of Public Safety. If you received a court order to complete the Ohio remedial program, which is an 8-hour defensive driving course, you can satisfy state requirements by completing this online course and submitting your certificate to the court.
How do I reinstate my Ohio driver license after a suspension?
If your license was suspended for receiving 12 or more points within a two-year period, you can take this course to meet one of the requirements for license reinstatement.
In addition to completing a defensive driving course, you must:
- Serve a six-month suspension
- File a certificate of insurance (SR-22/bond)
- Pay a reinstatement fee
- Retake the driver license exam

Do you report course completion to the Ohio BMV?
Yes, your course completion will automatically be reported to the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Once your completion has been successfully reported, you will receive an email with your official digital certificate of completion issued by the BMV.
Will I receive a certificate of completion?
Yes. Because we automatically report your course completion to the Ohio BMV, you do not need to submit a certificate after finishing the course. After your completion has been successfully reported on the Ohio Driver Education and Training System (DETS), you will receive an email with your official digital certificate of completion issued by the BMV.
Does the Ohio Defensive Driving course have an age restriction?
Yes. This is an adult remedial driving course designed for drivers ages 18 and up. Drivers who are 19 or older can take the course if they received a juvenile license suspension that occurred before the age of 18.
How long does the course take to complete?
The Ohio Adult Remedial Course takes at least eight hours to complete. To earn your certificate of completion, you must spend at least eight hours (480 minutes) in the course, not including breaks.
How long do I have to complete the course?
Students have up to 30 days to complete the course after registration. If you do not complete the course within 30 days, you must purchase the course again and start over to earn your certificate.
Does the course include mandatory breaks?
Yes. The state requires you to take a mandatory 10-minute break after every two consecutive hours of learning. Time spent during mandatory break periods does not count toward the eight hours you're required to spend in the course
Do I need to verify my identity to take the course?
Yes, the state requires you to confirm your identity to prove you complete the course unassisted. Before you take the final exam, you are required to answer a question to confirm your identity. If you do not answer the identity question correctly, you will have one more opportunity to answer. If the second validation question is answered incorrectly, you will be locked out of the course for one day.
The next calendar day, you will receive two more opportunities to correctly answer a question to confirm your identity.
What are the minimum technology requirements for the course?
This course can be completed 100% online using any internet-connected device. There are no minimum browser requirements.
